UX Blueprint and Design Framework. Essential user
interactions, design principles, and supporting processes
for developing a detailed UX/UI concept for a navigation
solution at the IAA.

information about the presentation content in advance.

According to a survey conducted by student volunteers among around
200 trade fair visitors, the following needs were identified: there are around 800 exhibitors—vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, start-ups, and digital corporations.

Large exhibition areas & overwhelm

  • The IAA extends over huge halls and open spaces with hundreds of exhibitors. Visitors report feeling "overwhelmed" by the sheer amount of cars, fair stalls, and activities... A route planner was recommended in the guide to avoid getting lost.

  • Major challenge: the large number of exhibitors made a targeted approach necessary—visitors demanded navigation apps in advance.

  • There are no official trade fair apps, which is why visitors relied on third-party apps for orientation. Advertised later, but only partially used or integrated, and not across the board.

  • Inconsistent arrangement. Thematically grouped halls, such as "New Mobility World," or individual brands were scattered across the grounds. Visitors found it difficult to plan a logical tour. The trade fair seems disoriented and chaotically structured.

How might a simple solution be presented to offer both groups—businesses and visitors—excellent assistance?

What solutions do trade fair visitors want when they visit a specific exhibition stand?

Which solutions require random, unplanned trade show attendees?

What do exhibitors want in terms of interactive directions and information about their products?

What could the interactive concept for navigation at the IAA through the large trade fair look like? How might a simple solution be presented to offer both groups excellent assistance?
Some essential randomly chosen excerpts/questions for project research.
60 trade fair visitors were interviewed sporadically on 2 professional visitor days.

  • Huge area & variety: Visitors felt overwhelmed without clear signage or structure.

  • High visitor numbers and crowding in popular halls and at entrances made navigation difficult.

  • Inadequate digital orientation apps were introduced late or usedinfrequently; integrated navigation aids were lacking.

  • Scattered topic groups

  • New hall sections and event zones led to disorientation.

User research

Problem area description
  • Structure and orientation, guidance, information and clear navigation to the pre-planned destination.

  • Reducing the feeling of being overwhelmed.

  • Reducing distraction caused by an excessive number of exhibitors.

  • Feedback option for future improvement of the digital solution
  • Easy, quick way to find exhibitors; easy way to find products

  • A specific digital guide is needed as a touchscreen and an app, uniform for the entire trade fair

  • A guide over the entire area and all topics as an overview
